Recently, I had to look for a new job due to the COVID-19 situation. Sadly, my previous role was made redundant. I imagine that a lot of you might be in the same boat.

But I have to say, even though this time around was atypical, it was not as challenging. Note that I said challenging not that it wasn’t a lot of work.

It made me reflect on all the times I had to search for a job and how much I struggled every damn time — impostor syndrome was a familiar companion. The anxiety of having my career on the hands of people that didn’t know me made me feel miserable.

I wish my younger self knew what I know now. I would’ve probably been more confident and happier in my 20s.

Luckily, over the years, I learned through trial and error how to position myself in the market. And although I made mistakes I could’ve avoided, there’s no point in scrutinising myself now. I can only look forward.

What I can also do is share my story here. These strategies enabled me to land a job in less than two months and, as a side benefit, strengthened my confidence and self-esteem. See below how I did it.

1. The right mindset
